David Brown Investigations
As a survivor of clergy sexual abuse at the age of 15 while in high school in Nashville I find the most important job we have as an adult/parent is to protect our children from sexual predators.  But how do we do that?  Let me give you some very chilling statistics.

  • 1 in 4 girls will be sexually abused in America before she turns 18;
  • 1 in 6 boys will be sexually abused in America before he turns 18;
  • More than 90% of the abusers are people children know, love and trust;
  • There are more than 39 MILLION victims of child sexual abuse in America;
  • 20% of child sexual abuse victims are under the age of 8;
  • And most the most chilling fact of all MOST WILL NEVER TELL!
I often tell people that in 1961 I became a victim, in 1996 I became a survivor and in 2005 I became an advocate.  I simply refuse to let what one man meant for evil to destroy my life, my God is bigger than his.  But it is so hard to live with the shame, humiliation and stigma of being a survivor of child sexual abuse.  I was silent about my abuse for over 35 years and then even after counseling it took another 9 years to tell people what really went on.  And you wonder why so many of us commit suicide?

If you want to read more about my story here it is: RAPE OF FAITH.  In 2007 I was named the Shelby County Crime Victim of the year for my work in protecting our children and trying to make others aware of this horrible crime that thrives in secrecy and silence.  I work with other victims/survivors of clergy sexual abuse as well as track down pedophiles.  I do this Pro Bono, there are never any fees.

A few years ago I was asked by a group that Andrea Conte, former first lady of Tennessee founded to be part of an educational documentary about my abuse, my work as an advocate and my strong faith in spite of my abuse.  Her group is YOU HAVE THE POWER.  The DVD project is called THE SACRED SECRET.  I have been part of special panel discussions all over Tennessee and the South.  In those sessions we show the DVD, have a panel discussion and Q&A sessions.  We have shown it to youth groups, churches, schools and anywhere interested groups want to listen.  If you want further information, please contact me.

For those of you out there that have yet to deal with your abuse, I want you to know there is help ready and waiting. We understand what you are going through and how you feel.  We are here for you.  But please take it one day at a time.  Just the fact that you take that first step in reaching out and talking about it is so brave.  We will be here to walk that walk with you.
